The PE teaching staff encourage every pupil to engage in some form of physical activity in which they can participate to their own level. We also strive for excellence and compete at the highest level.
We offer a wide range of sports and physical options, some of which are off-site for older girls. In curriculum lessons, Year 7 and 8 are taught netball, hockey, swimming, gymnastics, dance, tennis, athletics and rounders.
Year 9 continue with these activities and add fitness, table tennis and badminton to their curriculum. In Year 10 the scope widens and the new activities include waterpolo, trampolining, basketball and cricket.
The Year 11 curriculum options include ice skating, golf, skiing, yoga, kick boxing, sailing, rowing and cycling as well as activities of their own choice within school. Year 12 choose between tai chi, pilates, fitness, rowing, table tennis and badminton. However, Year 12 students are also encourage to follow accredited courses during their PE lessons.
We currently run the Community Sports Leaders Award, the National Pool Lifeguard award and the Dance Leaders Award. PE is a popular GCSE subject and AS level PE is offered in the sixth form. JAGS offers a huge range of extra-curricular sporting activities, which take place essentially after school but also at lunchtime and before school. Pupils may choose to join any of the following clubs:

There is an extensive fixture programme with as many teams as feasible representing each age group. Our excellent facilities include a sports hall, 25m swimming pool with large viewing gallery, a squash court, a climbing wall, eight tennis courts (2 floodlit), six netball courts (2 floodlit) two computerised fitness gyms, two dance studios, an artificial floodlit all weather hockey pitch and extensive playing fields. These all provide a positive and well-resourced environment for our striving for excellence and 'sport for all' ethos.
