Our KS3 curriculum ranges from the medieval period to Nazi Germany, and we are building in more case studies from around the world. At KS4 we prepare students for the Cambridge IGCSE, studying International Relations in the 20 th Century, and a depth study on Russia, 1905-1941, which provides us with exciting themes and an understanding of the world today.
In the Sixth Form we prepare students for the Cambridge Pre-U examination. Our topics for the European paper include early modern Spain, the Holy Roman Empire, the Reformation and the Ottoman Empire. For the Asian outline paper we study India, 1857-1948 and China in the Twentieth Century. A special subject on Henry VIII provides a depth study in British History.
Exciting trips support our curriculum: at Easter there was a trip to St. Petersburg and also a year 9 trip to the Battlefields. In the Autumn half-term there was a trip to Washington and New York, and next Easter a trip to China.
An animated, weekly lunchtime ‘History Matters’ group for all historians in Y12 and 13 has discussed questions such as ‘What makes a great leader?’ and ‘Why do revolutions happen?’ Girls in Y13 conduct presentations based on their individual research, on a diverse range of topics from Japanese History to the Norman Conquest. We invite a range of speakers to JAGS and attend outside lectures as well, for example at Dulwich College. In the summer we run a with a joint reading party with the College as part of our Oxbridge preparation.
