Whole School Art

同乐城官网 www.xyqp168.com Nearly 40 pupils from across the school have had their work picked out to be displayed at the Royal College of Art. Their pieces were chosen from over 7,600 young artists' entries from 87 different schools who entered the Young Art competition in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Congratulations to Lucy Lewis Ward in Year 12, who won first place in the Printmaking Prize. In speaking about her work she said, “It was the development of my original drawing into my finished print that helped me refine my ideas. After this, I enjoyed the practical side of printmaking, and this helped me express my ideas and showcase my original ideas from my first drawings”. As winner of the prize she also had the honour of interviewing the prize judge, Prof Chris Orr MBE RA and she asked him about experimenting with printing materials and whether the use of colour can make a print more interesting.

There was further success for JAGS pupils, with Io in Year 2 and Liliana in Year 12 winning second prizes in their respective competitions. Iona in Year 12 won third prize, and Lucy B in Year 12 was highly commended. A huge congratulations to all the girls whose work was selected to feature in the exhibition. You can see a selection of their entries below.

This is the 29th year that the competition has been run and in that time it has raised over £1,000,000 for research into childhood cancers.

The theme for this year’s art was “The Moment” and the winning entries, which are now being exhibited at the prestigious Royal College of Art, were chosen by a panel of leading contemporary artists including Professor Chris Orr MBE RA, Nicola Bayley and James Hart Dyke.
